PPM#17 in SD
Dean Spunt has a record label called Post Present Medium. He puts out records by a bunch of cool bands like Abe Vigoda, Mika Miko, David Scott Stone, and of course a few No Age records. The latest PPM release is a DVD compilation of videos from their roster and extended family.
Tomorrow (Sunday) night, old friend Mario is presenting a preview screening at his new ‘night’ called ‘Too Many Creeps‘ (every Sunday at the Whistle Stop, 2236 Fern St., San Diego).
Jennifer and Kate from Mika Miko will be there to play records too. Screening’s at 9pm. You should go.

Mario’s Pullin’ Some Shit in San Diego Tomorrow
Our old friend Mario is always keepin’ busy in San Diego and tomorrow night he’s presenting the new Vice documentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad at The Whistle Stop (2236 Fern St). The screening starts at 9pm and then Mario and his cronies will be playing records afterwards. Not to be missed.
The Return of Community Shorts!
After many months of work, we’re finally getting ready to kick off the project we’ve been preparing for this summer. We’ve taken the original concept behind Milkfat Films (an online ‘magazine’ featuring videos from our favorite filmmakers) and combined it w/ the screening we held in Echo Park last December, and now we’re proud to announce the new Community Shorts.
CommunityShorts.com will be a site much like this one, but featuring videos on a much more regular basis (one a week!) and from a larger group of curated contributors. The site will be much more high-tech as well. The videos, which will play in a custom flash player built by Nic Couillard, will be embeddable, full-screenable, and downloadable to iTunes, iPods, and iPhones.
To commemorate our launch, we’re holding screening events in New York and LA where we’ll be premiering many of the videos from the site. Our New York event will be held on Thursday May 29 at the Black Swan Wines project space in SoHo (70 Greene St). Our Los Angeles screening will be on Sunday June 1 and will again be held at the Evil Monito space in Echo Park (1830 Echo Park Ave). Admission to the screenings is by RSVP only this time so please click here for the NYC one or here for the LA one.
We’ve put together an incredible program featuring contributions from Casey Anderson, Birthday Boy Presents, Blip Boutique, Eli Born, Oscar Boyson, Andy Bruntel, Fatal Farm, Russ Finkelstein, Phylicia Fuentes, Bucky Fukumoto, Micah Gallo, Peter Glanz, Brennan Hill, Oren Kaplan, Jonathan Levine, Pank Films, Patrick McKenzie, Carson Mell, us(!), Casey & Van Neistat, Olde English, Phil Pinto, Red Bucket Films, Rue Brutalia, Jett Steiger and Waverly Films. Yeah.
Expect a few more updates as our screenings approach, and an announcement here when the site goes live. Until then…

Tonight: Rue Brutalia @ UCB in NYC
Rue Brutalia (Jon Pack and Jason Kalter) will be performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York (307 W 26th St) tonight at 6:30pm. We’ll be featuring a new video by Rue Brutalia this weekend, but if you’re in the city, this show should tide you over until then.
‘The Pleasure of Being Robbed’ Screening Tonight in New York
Our friend Josh Safdie of Red Bucket Films made a feature called ‘The Pleasure of being Robbed’ and he’s showing it in New York tonight at the Anthology Film Archives (32 2nd ave). The show starts at 8pm but I’ve heard it’s going to be packed, so show up early or end up in the aisle.
SxSW: The Pleasure of Being Robbed
Red Bucket Films will be premiering their new feature ‘The Pleasure of Being Robbed‘ in Austin later today. There will be two other showings later this week too, so don’t miss it if you’re in Texas.
SxSW: The Execution of Solomon Harris
Our friend Jett Steiger is also at South by Southwest with a short he produced called ‘The Execution of Solomon Harris‘. It was made available on iTunes after showing at Sundance this year and it’ll be showing twice more this week in Austin (once later today). Go see Eli’s crazy camera work.

SxSW: Beautiful Losers

Bumped into Aaron Rose at LAX on Saturday morning — on his way to Austin to premiere the documentary he’s been working on for for a long time, ‘Beautiful Losers‘. I got to see a cut a few months ago, and you shouldn’t miss is if you’re around. Thursday’s show followed by a Money Mark show.
F-F-F-Frownland opens exclusive engagement today at IFC
FROWNLAND traces the unenviable existence of a friendless, luckless, self-described “troll from under the bridge” who hawks coupon packets door-to-door. Independent Spirit Award nominated filmmaker Ronald Bronstein has called his controversial, award-winning debut “a jagged little pill of a movie… My own small contribution to the sinking barge of the 16mm indie film — a mad valentine to the craggy tradition of unadulterated cheap-o independent expression.”
This is an extraordinary film. Go see it. Bronstein is there in person Friday and Saturday @ 7:45pm.

for those who love papel
If anyone is in LA tonight check out the opening party for Geoff McFetridge’s new designs for Pottok.
