The Return of Community Shorts!
After many months of work, we’re finally getting ready to kick off the project we’ve been preparing for this summer. We’ve taken the original concept behind Milkfat Films (an online ‘magazine’ featuring videos from our favorite filmmakers) and combined it w/ the screening we held in Echo Park last December, and now we’re proud to announce the new Community Shorts.
CommunityShorts.com will be a site much like this one, but featuring videos on a much more regular basis (one a week!) and from a larger group of curated contributors. The site will be much more high-tech as well. The videos, which will play in a custom flash player built by Nic Couillard, will be embeddable, full-screenable, and downloadable to iTunes, iPods, and iPhones.
To commemorate our launch, we’re holding screening events in New York and LA where we’ll be premiering many of the videos from the site. Our New York event will be held on Thursday May 29 at the Black Swan Wines project space in SoHo (70 Greene St). Our Los Angeles screening will be on Sunday June 1 and will again be held at the Evil Monito space in Echo Park (1830 Echo Park Ave). Admission to the screenings is by RSVP only this time so please click here for the NYC one or here for the LA one.
We’ve put together an incredible program featuring contributions from Casey Anderson, Birthday Boy Presents, Blip Boutique, Eli Born, Oscar Boyson, Andy Bruntel, Fatal Farm, Russ Finkelstein, Phylicia Fuentes, Bucky Fukumoto, Micah Gallo, Peter Glanz, Brennan Hill, Oren Kaplan, Jonathan Levine, Pank Films, Patrick McKenzie, Carson Mell, us(!), Casey & Van Neistat, Olde English, Phil Pinto, Red Bucket Films, Rue Brutalia, Jett Steiger and Waverly Films. Yeah.
Expect a few more updates as our screenings approach, and an announcement here when the site goes live. Until then…
Who needs a movie?
Polish Junky Doc
Alejandro Lopez is a video artist and documentary filmmaker from Bogota, Colombia. During a trip to Poland he made this documentary with a heroin junky who could speak spanish, but don’t worry, its all subtitled and its great.

Sasha Grey is Heady
There is a brilliant new up-and-commer in Porn, she is Sasha Grey. Sasha shot her first adult film in 2006, just weeks after turning 18, and hasn’t stopped or lost momentum since. This year she won adult perfomer of the year in the porn oscars (AVN in Las Vegas). She has been featured in vice TV’s show Shot By Kern (vbs.com) and on the Tyra Banks Show. She also recently appeared in the new Roots music video. Also she is starting her own management firm this year. All this and she is still under the legal drinking age. Here is a trailer for her new feature.
She has a youtube show called Sasha Grey on Sasha Grey. Its awsome.
